From property purchases to second homes, investment properties, and relocation destinations -- Vietnam's Da Nang continues to attract attention. While its real estate transaction transparency is still lower compared to other popular Asian investment destinations, infrastructure development is progressing rapidly. Personally, it reminds me of Bangkok about 20 years ago. Back then, through my work with JETRO, I traveled between Tokyo and Bangkok over 40 times in four years. When the BTS Skytrain began operation, it greatly improved traffic congestion, boosting convenience for commuters and tourists alike -- and condominium and hotel-condo prices surged dramatically. Bangkok's urban expansion also spread to resort areas such as Pattaya and Chiang Mai, attracting even more visitors.

In 2003, my Chinese partner and I also ran a company in Beijing. At that time, it was possible to purchase property and even open a bank account with just a passport. The first subway line was nearly empty -- it's hard to believe how far the city has developed since then. Vietnam, while also a socialist country, has a similar business sense and speed to China in a positive way.

Today, Da Nang is steadily recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic, with growing foreign investment and an increasing number of international tourists. Infrastructure projects such as highways connecting the North and South and port developments are also progressing. The question for investors is whether to invest in already developed countries or in a fast-growing market like Vietnam.
